Kustom ACH provides a high/mid cut modification service to ACH/MICH,ECH and PASGT/LWH ballistic helmet owners.
1. Identify which shell you have and research which parts you will be using to build it up. 99% of GI shells will use ACH rails. If you have any concerns/questions please contact Kustom ACH via the contact page.
2. Create an account and place your cut order.
3. Ship your shell after receiving the confirmation email with address to ship to.
4. Standby while your shell is reworked. This is a great time to order any parts you may need for build up. Current turn-around is 2-3 weeks due to demand.
5. Receive your helmet and perform final assembly to your liking.
In short, absolutely. In length, it's more nuanced. Even from the factory the integrity of the shell was affected when it was cut and drilled after it came out of the mold. The real question is how much and where? I'm no materials engineer and can't tell you whether an old ballistic shell, far outside it's expiration date, can perform to it's original ballistic rating after being modified or even before being modified. I can say for certain that all shells were trimmed from the factory and most were hand trimmed and finished before automation processes became the standard. In my opinion the bigger issue is the loss of approximately 10 sq in of coverage from each ear area when going to a high cut. Ultimately the decision to modify and use is up to the individual and their application.
Yes, a new black rubber seal is applied and when completed and painted a shell will look factory or near factory. Kustom ACH regularly hears back from customers that they can't tell their helmet wasn't a high cut from the factory. This is considered a great compliment and the goal.
Legacy helmets include PASGT/LWH, ACH/MICH/TBH and ECH. These shells are all the same foundational shape. All these shells will require ACH rails for direct and best fitment. The skeletonized versions offer a wider range of fitment due to the larger slot design.
-OpsCore Skeletonized ACH-ARC or Gunnook Type III ACH Rail
-OpsCore ACH-ARC(standard version) or Gunnook Type II ACH rails
FAST(Future Assault Shell Technology) is a shell design owned by OpsCore. FAST Rails designed for these helmets DO NOT fit the legacy helmets. Bolt spacing and shell contour is different between the two families of shells.
This option is in regards to the original nvg shroud hole found on most GI shells. If chosen, the shell can be drilled for the standard MARSOC/WARCOM 3-hole shroud pattern. The original single hole can then be superficially filled with epoxy or left open to accept a screw. If you plan on using a single hole shroud then no additonal holes are necessary.
The PASGT and MLWH helmets make great high cuts. After being modified they will fit ACH parts and accessories. This makes for many options to choose from to build out your older helmet into a very comfortable and functional modular unit.
A high cut ACH/ECH is within about 1/4'' of the cut height of a FAST MT/SF. Therefore many customers run MT/SF covers of the same size as their ACH/ECH shells with great results. The standard height FAST XP/ST covers will also fit a high cut ACH/ECH but will have some extra material that hangs over the rails slightly.
